Kitale clergy oppose Bill to regulate the Church
Religious leaders from Trans Nzoia County have rubbished a bill that is set to regulate churches in Kenya terming it archaic and retrogressive.
While speaking to the press in Kitale town, led by Rev Fred Kana and Harrison Ndeda, the clergy said that at no point will they support the bill that is being fronted by Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana.
According to them, the bill is meant to gag the church and its follower’s.
Rev Ndeda warned that despite efforts by the lawmaker to try and make amendments, they insisted the clergy will not support it.
“We, as the religious leaders won’t accept any amendments by Mungatana. We can regulate ourselves and we are urging our followers to be alert on this and resist,” warned Ndeda.
Kana added that the concerns raised by the leaders are valid and Kenya has over 85 per cent of christians and their concerns must be addressed urgently.
This is despite President William Ruto assuring them of non interference by any state actors barely days ago.
They urged the legislators to address pertinent issues affecting the nation including, poverty, unemployment, poor governance, corruption among other issues rather than delving into matter’s of worship.
