Tumetoka ODM: Kakamega MCAs decamp to Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi camp
At least five Kakamega members of County Assembly have ditched Oburu Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement party for the Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi Movement.
The MCAs, led by Lumakanda’s Benard Mulama, alias Bokanda, said they came to the conclusion after being removed from the assembly’s crucial committees.
Speaking to journalists, Mulama said orders from above made the assembly snatch his position as the majority whip. However, she affirmed that no intimidation will make her support the Kenya Kwanza regime.
According to Mulama, Linda Mwananchi is the only hope for Kenya, and anyone who is trying to intimidate others’ opinions will not succeed.
“We are firm, and we will not be intimidated by orders. We live in a democratic country where anyone can affiliate with any party without being discriminated,” Bernard Mulama said.
He used the platform to call out the county speaker for not being neutral in executing his mandate in the county assembly.
He said he is being used by the county’s top leaders in undermining the assembly’s performance by favouring one side.
“Kakamega is under state capture. The speaker is being controlled by the executive, where he is used to intimidate those with different opinions,” Mulama alleged.
The MCA added that their support towards the Sifuna-led movement is priceless, refuting claims that Edwin Sifuna is poor and he can’t run for presidency, revealing that the movement belongs to Wanchi, who is funding it.
He accused National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula of being mean and selfish by not supporting Edwin Sifuna’s bid for presidency.
Bokanda said Wetangula is busy campaigning for President Ruto’s re-election, leaving his mandate as the speaker, which he said could land Kenya in political mystery.
In addition, Mautuma MCA Charles Anyona was also stripped of assembly committees. Anyona said they were victimised after throwing their support to Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Anyona said his stand will not be intimidated by others who are against Sifuna, affirming he will continue supporting Senator Edwin Sifuna.
According to Anyona, every Kenyan from children to grown-ups is behind Senator Edwin Sifuna, and who is he to deny him?
He affirmed that this is the golden opportunity for the western region to have their first president since independence, asking fellow Luhyas to support their own.
“Every corner of this country is sifunated. I will not buy intimidation, but I will support Sifuna up to the end. Sifuna is our next president, and we are ready to fund him,” Anyona said.
The county legislators vowed not to stop supporting their own, saying it’s their right to choose whoever they want to be the president.
They accused ODM of using state machinery to settle political scores, saying it has killed the party’s popularity in the region.
The members of the county who are allegedly being intimidated for supporting the Linda Mwananchi Movement include MCA Marama North Charles Nandwa, Koyonzo MCA Donald Okumu and nominated MCA Ho Ziila.
