UDA Kakamega Woman Rep aspirant clobbered, ejected from church as Wetang’ula, Barasa watch

Tension arose at Bulimbo Catholic Church in Matungu Constituency after goons beat and ejected a former Kakamega Senate aspirant and currently aspiring women representative on UDA ticket Winfred Abuti from the church while Speaker Moses Wetangula and Governor Fernandes Barasa were watching.

The commotion erupted a few minutes after Asiko entered the church to attend a fundraising event, prompting organisers to stop it for several minutes.

Speaking to journalists, Asiko said no one had given her a microphone to speak when suspected hired goons ejected her from the church and started beating her.

“I saw five men coming towards me while I was sitting. They forcefully ejected me outside where they began beating me,” Asiko said.

However, Asiko said the police officers who were guarding the venue decided to shield her and escorted her to a police land cruiser that evacuated her from angry goons who were beating her.

She revealed that some members of the Kakamega County Assembly from Khwisero Constituency who were present also assisted the policeman who shielded her from alleged goons up to where the security agencies stood.

According to Asiko, there are rumours that she has been attacking other politicians from the county who allegedly sent goons to attack her in front of Governor Fernandes Barasa and Moses Wetangula.

She said that some of those who attacked her are known to be among the people around Governor Fernandes Barasa, alleging that he may be the one who planned the script.

She added that she has been playing her politics well and she has never attacked anyone during her speeches and wondered why goons attacked her in front of the clergymen and women.

“Mimi sijawaitusi mtu; I don’t understand why they decided to eject me from the church,” she added.

Observers have seen Winfred Asiko campaigning for William Ruto during her rallies in Kakamega after having a fallout with the DAP-K Party when it lost in Malava.

The politician decided to join Ruto’s camp and have been attending UDA rallies in Malava Subcounty, accompanying President Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet.

Father Stanlous Osidi, who leads the Bulimbo Catholic Church, condemned the incident, urging the politicians to be human to others.

Father Isidi noted that the increasing political tension in the county should not exceed where it is now, urging politicians to focus on service delivery rather than investing in goons.

He noted that churches have become battlegrounds for politicians, where congregations suffer when politicians attend church services, saying it should end.

“The political class should respect churches. The act of goonsim is ungodly, so let us be brothers’ keepers.” Father said
