Governor Barasa announces plans to prioritise food production in Kakamega
The County Government of Kakamega has announced plans to prioritise food production initiatives to ensure food security and create agriculture-related job opportunities across the county.
Speaking in Malava Constituency today during the World Food Day celebrations, held at Mzee Joel Mmbasu’s farm, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa emphasised the importance of agriculture in boosting the county’s economy.
He highlighted his administration’s commitment to investing heavily in agricultural activities, aiming to make Kakamega a leader in food production in Kenya.
He also urged the contractor tasked with the construction of the Tumbeni Dairy Factory to expedite the works, aiming for completion before the end of this year, to offer a ready market for milk farmers and create employment opportunities for the youth in the county.
The initiative is part of Kakamega County’s broader efforts to tackle food insecurity while creating a vibrant agricultural sector that will boost economic growth and support local farmers.
