Food Security: Lusaka roots for innovation in agribusiness as sustainable solution

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, who also chairs the Agriculture Committee at the Council of Governors (COG), has advocated for innovation in agribusiness as a sustainable solution to food security.

Speaking at the University of Eldoret during its 17th Agribusiness Trade Fair, Lusaka emphasized the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance agricultural development and modern farming techniques.

He highlighted the benefits the Trade Fair has provided to farmers in the region, including exposure to new technologies, modern machinery, and enhanced training opportunities.

“The Trade Fair underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in agriculture,” Lusaka noted, adding that this year’s theme, “Promoting Climate-Smart Agri-preneurship and Value Addition to Spur Industrialization for Sustainable Development,” reflects the multifaceted efforts required to ensure food security.

Lusaka urged counties to create favorable environments for agricultural development, aligning with the goals of Kenya’s Vision 2030 through innovative and commercially oriented practices.

He also called for strengthened research efforts, urging universities and research institutions to focus on solving challenges farmers face across the entire agricultural value chain.

The Governor concluded by praising the University of Eldoret and its partners for their ongoing support of the agricultural sector through initiatives like the Agribusiness Trade Fair, which not only assists farmers but also fosters regional economic growth.

Lusaka reiterated Bungoma County’s commitment to supporting agricultural research and development, recognizing it as a key driver for achieving food security and industrial growth in Kenya.
