Relief for Kakamega residents as Governor flags off 12 ambulances for emergency cases
Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa on August 5, flagged off 12 brand new ambulances at Kakamega General Hospital to serve all the 12 sub-counties.
This event is part of his promise for the current financial year to introduce new emergency vehicles.
Two of the 12 ambulances are highly advanced, equipped with full life support systems, akin to a mobile ICU.
“I call upon my people, if you have any challenge in the village, these 12 ambulances will be stationed in our sub-counties, with the priority to serve our people,” Governor Barasa said.
Appreciating the support from the Red Cross, Governor Barasa highlighted that this collaboration will significantly benefit the residents. The partnership with the Red Cross to flag off these ambulances will aid patients across the sub-counties.
Governor Barasa emphasized health as one of the pillars of his economic transformation agenda. He expressed satisfaction in joining Red Cross CEO Abbas Gullet in signing a five-year contract to assist patients.
“I have worked with the Red Cross for about 10 years. Besides health services, we also collaborate on water and education projects to benefit the people of Kakamega,” Barasa stated.
He highlighted that the county has a monthly contract with the Red Cross for health services. Given the vastness of the county, the emergency rescue facility is crucial.
Barasa noted that the budget for counties has been drastically reduced following the rejection of the finance bill, making it essential to adopt efficient strategies like the releasing model to provide effective medical services.
The CEO mentioned that the old ambulances in Kakamega, now out of the market, responded to 60,000 calls over the last 10 years. The new ambulances are equipped with top-notch paramedics and well-trained youths who will run the services in collaboration with the County government.
