The Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) secretary General Seth Panyako has come to the aid of Sydney Mbaruku a Form One student at Mautuma High School who had not set foot in school since schools resumed for second term for lack of school fees.
Panyako support comes at a time the Malava National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) office is facing claims of allegedly spending a whooping Kshs10 milllion on the bursary disbursement committee.
A source from the office revealed that while Kshs45 million was allocated by the office towards the bursary, around Kshs 10 million was spent on allowances and tea for the committee that saw disbursement of the same even as some students in extra county schools were allocated as low as Ksh 3,000.

Panyako paid full fees for Mbaruku who hails from Chombeli village of South Kabras ward, just few kilometres from Samitsi town centre.
He is just one among the over 40 beneficiaries of the support the unionist is giving to students from humble backgrounds in the area.
Malava member of Parliament Malulu Injendi has been also accused of politicising the bursary issue as only his cronies are believed to benefit with reasonable allocations and schools from his home area receiving huge allocations for the purposes of development.
It is worth noting that the office is not considerate of individual academic performance or family background, but it’s said as long as you hail from home schools from the MP’s backyard, and apply, it automatically qualifies you to be awarded with the bursary.
