Governor Kenneth Lusaka has challenged parents in Sirisia Constituency to prioritize education by enrolling their children at St. Emmaculate Mayekwe Girls Secondary School, describing education as the most powerful tool for transforming communities and creating equal opportunities.

Speaking during the school’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lwandanyi on June 3, Lusaka emphasized that investing in education remains key to unlocking the region’s social and economic potential.

“Education is the greatest equalizer in society. By educating our children, we empower them to break barriers, transform their lives, and uplift entire communities,” said the Governor.

The county chief also raised concern over rising cases of indiscipline in learning institutions, noting that such behavior undermines academic performance, discourages teachers, and negatively affects school enrollment.

He further condemned recent incidents of student unrest and arson reported in schools across the country, calling on school administrators and boards of management to strictly enforce safety standards, particularly in boarding facilities.

“We must safeguard our learners at all times. School managements have a responsibility to ensure that safety measures are fully implemented to protect students, especially those residing in dormitories,” he said.

In a move aimed at expanding access to education, Lusaka announced plans to revive the county scholarship programme to support vulnerable and needy learners who risk dropping out due to financial constraints.

The Governor also revealed that the Bungoma County Public Service Board has commenced the shortlisting process for the recruitment of additional ECDE teachers. He said the exercise is intended to improve the teacher-pupil ratio and strengthen foundational learning across the county.

Lusaka highlighted several ongoing development initiatives being implemented by his administration across various sectors, affirming his commitment to fulfilling campaign pledges and accelerating Bungoma’s socio-economic transformation.

“I remain focused on delivering meaningful development and improving the lives of Bungoma residents through strategic investments in education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and other critical sectors,” he stated.

In his capacity as President William Ruto’s Western Region 2027 Re-election Coordinator, Lusaka also rallied residents of Sirisia to support the President’s bid for a second term, arguing that continued support would guarantee the completion of ongoing development projects and unlock further investments in the region.
