I’m in the 2027 Vihiga Gubernatorial race, Kahi Indumuli declares

For the residents of Vihiga County, the entry of one of their own into the 2027 gubernatorial race is not just the change they have been yearning for, but a bold move to bring the county into government after years in opposition.

The recent ceremony where he represented President William Ruto and presented Ksh 2.5 million in support of five clubs within the county is an early indicator that he has the ear and backing of the President as a preferred candidate to fly the UDA ticket in the Vihiga gubernatorial race.

During last month’s development tour in Vihiga, Indumuli stood out at the Mbale Town rally and requested the President to support the five clubs, prompting the pledge.

To demonstrate his intention to shift the county from opposition to government, the educationist, Kahi Indumuli, presented the funds adorned in a UDA cap and scarf, affirming his loyalty and ambition to vie for the top seat.

The five teams—Vihiga United, Luanda Villa FC, Vihiga Queens, Bunyore Starlets, and Vihiga Sportiff FC—each received Ksh 500,000. The President also pledged to provide two buses.

Indumuli has been credited for supporting these teams and championing the ongoing construction of the Ksh 900 million Kidundu Stadium to international standards.

On behalf of Vihiga FC, Indumuli thanked President Ruto, noting that the support will help settle bills and support operations.

The leader, already on the campaign trail, has been meeting delegations across the county, many pledging support and expressing optimism about being aligned with the government.

“In 2022, after retiring from education, I considered vying for the Sabatia seat, but residents urged me to go for the gubernatorial position to drive development,” he said.

He has engaged various groups visiting his residence to share ideas and support his bid, describing the engagements as critical in shaping the county’s future.

The Vihiga seat is currently held by Governor Dr Wilbur Otichilo (ODM), who succeeded Moses Akaranga (PPK).

Indumuli’s key agenda is to shift the county into government to accelerate development. He has proposed expanding the Chavakali–Kapsabet road to curb frequent accidents.

He also pledged to work with the national government to improve road safety, address insecurity in Luanda, and resolve payment challenges facing Community Health Promoters (CHPs).

His blueprint includes completing markets along the Serem–Chavakali road, enhancing revenue collection, prudent use of county resources, and strengthening education through full implementation of the new curriculum.

He further proposed that student placement be handled by an independent body, similar to the university admission system, to ensure fairness and professionalism.
