Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka mourns close friend Cyrus Jirongo following tragic road crash

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has joined family, friends and leaders across the country in mourning the sudden death of businessman and top Luhya politician Cyrus Jirongo.

Lusaka has described Jirongo as a dear friend whose warmth, generosity and commitment to people left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

In a heartfelt message after receiving news of the tragedy, Governor Lusaka said he was deeply shaken by Jirongo’s death, which occurred following a road accident in Naivasha.

The governor spoke not only as a public leader, but as a longtime friend grappling with the pain of an abrupt and irreversible loss.

“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the passing of my dear and longtime friend, Hon. Cyrus Jirongo,” Lusaka said. “Cyrus was a warm, generous and deeply committed soul whose presence brightened every space he occupied.”

Jirongo, a towering figure in Kenya’s political and business circles, was widely known for his bold personality, sharp political instincts and willingness to engage across divides.

Over the years, he cultivated friendships that cut across party lines and regions, earning him both admirers and critics, but rarely indifference.

To those close to him, however, he was more than a public figure; he was a dependable confidant, a mentor and a man who valued loyalty and personal relationships.

Governor Lusaka noted that Jirongo’s sudden passing had left a void that would be difficult to fill, particularly for his family and those who shared close personal bonds with him.

He said the pain of the loss was compounded by the abruptness with which it occurred, leaving loved ones with little time to prepare or say goodbye.

“His sudden departure is a painful and irreplaceable loss to his family, friends, and the wider community whose lives he touched in countless ways,” Lusaka said.

Beyond politics, Jirongo was known for his generosity and willingness to help those in need, often quietly and without seeking public recognition.

Many leaders who worked with him recall a man who was candid, sometimes controversial, but deeply invested in the welfare of the people around him.

His ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life made him a familiar and influential presence in national conversations for decades.

As messages of condolence continued to pour in from across the country, Governor Lusaka extended his sympathies to the Jirongo family, urging them to draw strength from the memories they shared with their departed loved one.

“On my behalf and on behalf of all who stand with me, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Jirongo family and loved ones during this moment of deep grief,” he said.

The governor also called on Kenyans to keep the family in their prayers, acknowledging that words alone could not ease the pain of such a loss.

He said faith, unity and shared remembrance would be crucial in helping the family and friends navigate the difficult days ahead.

“May God grant you strength, comfort and peace drawn from the cherished memories you shared,” Lusaka added, praying that Jirongo’s soul would rest in eternal peace.

Jirongo’s death has once again cast a spotlight on the fragility of life and the suddenness with which tragedy can strike. For Governor Lusaka, the loss is both personal and profound, a reminder of a friendship built over years of shared experiences, conversations and mutual respect.

As the nation mourns, Lusaka urged Kenyans to remember Jirongo not only for his public life, but for the humanity behind the name — a man whose laughter, generosity and passion for life left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know him.
