“Sakaja is a failure” Tim Wanyonyi slams Nairobi Governor as he vows to streamline City

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of corruption, mismanagement, and lack of tangible development in the capital.

Speaking while issuing NG-CDF bursary cheques in Karura, Wanyonyi assured residents that he would rectify the situation if elected governor in 2027.

“We promised bursaries, and today we are delivering. Parents must ensure accountability by taking the cheques to schools and returning receipts,” he emphasized.

Wanyonyi accused Sakaja of neglecting Nairobi’s development, citing mismanaged flood mitigation funds and unfulfilled projects.

“The President visited Nairobi, yet Sakaja had nothing to show apart from chapati talk. The rains are back, and the county is unprepared,” he lamented.

The Auditor-General’s report revealed KES 145.7 million donated by the French Embassy for the ‘Dishi Na County’ school feeding program remains unaccounted for.

It also found that the county paid KES 25 per plate, despite parents contributing KES 5, inflating costs to KES 30 per plate instead of KES 25. “Who else is eating? Where is the accountability?” Wanyonyi questioned.

The audit also exposed the lack of a formal agreement between the county and the implementing partner, Food for Education.

A National Treasury report ranked Nairobi among the bottom 10 counties in development expenditure, allocating only 10.3% instead of the required 30%.

“How can a capital city dedicate such a small fraction to development while Nairobians suffer?” Wanyonyi asked. The report also placed Governor Sakaja 37th out of 47 in an Infotrak survey on governor performance.

Additionally, the Controller of Budget’s report revealed that Nairobi spent zero shillings on development from July to October 2023, further damaging Sakaja’s credibility.

Wanyonyi questioned why Nairobi is lagging in revenue generation, citing Narok County’s KES 2.98 billion revenue in the three months to September 2024, surpassing Nairobi’s for the first time.

“Where is our money? Even Kidero provided bursaries. Why does Sakaja have zero bursaries and zero development?” he posed.

He further alleged revenue collected after midday is diverted for personal gain. “No development, no taxes!” he warned.

NG-CDF Westlands has set aside KES 44,340,000 in this financial year for bursaries.

Under the leadership of the current Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi, Westlands has witnessed unmatched support for education.

The Karura ward NG-CDF cheque issuance event was held at Hospital Hill High School.

The event was also attended by Hospital Hill High School Principal Ken Bunyasi.

Wanyonyi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education, issuing 1,300 bursary cheques, with 1,000 for secondary students and 300 for tertiary institutions.

He also called for improved emergency response, stressing that fire engines must be ready for rapid deployment.

“We want Nairobi to function. Take your cheques to school. Thank you and God bless you,” he concluded.
