Day Malava MP said goodbye: “Hata ni neema ya mungu nimekaa kufikia wakati huu” – VIDEO

A somber mood continues to engulf Malava Constituency in Kakamega County following the death of area MP Moses Malulu Injendi.

The legislator, who was serving his third consecutive term, breathed his last on Monday, February 17 while receiving treatment at The Aga Khan University hospital in Nairobi.

A smart and calculating politician, Injendi maneuvered political storms and hurdles and always emerged victorious even when all odds were against him.

He was known not to easily give up, no matter what.

Known for his social character and love for dining with those in grief, Injendi had become a darling of many as he rarely missed sharing such low moments with his constituents.

His staunch belief in his Catholic faith was not lost to many and this even earned him a nickname of ‘Wa Matongolo’ (the man of rosaries) from a section of his constituents, mostly in his rival camp.

He was nicknamed so, as he was ever seen with his rosary around his neck or fondling it in his fingers, most likely making silent prayers.

His colleagues in the National Assembly have also alluded to his strong religious faith, saying he was deeply rooted and nothing could have swayed him.

In the villages, he was a present figure in numerous religious activities besides condoling with bereaved families across the area.

And in January 2025 when he started going underground, his supporters suspected something was not right.

It was not in his usual character to go missing for long, leave for the scary period following the Gen Z-led protests against the controversial Finance Bill in which he voted in its favour.

Fearing for his life following a spate of attacks against MPs who supported the Bill, the MP had to retreat and limit his public appearances and this was also exacerbated by his controversial decision to vote against the impeachment of the then Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.

This is one of the times he was not seen in the public for long.

And when he again vanished from the public eye in January 2025, word hit the streets that he was unwell.

Days later, he would appear at a public function looking frail, weak and having difficulties and this, he spoke about it.

During the event, he told the constituents that he was indeed feeling unwell, suggesting that it was due to climatic changes after he visited an overseas country.

(An MCA has said I am weak and it’s because I was on a foreign tour where I was affected by the climate and it is not only the illness, but the climate has weakened my body a little bit),” he revealed.

The MP, further revealed that it was through God’s mercies that he was able to attend the event against his imagination.

He revealed to the crowd that he was having difficulties while attending the event but he got his strength through God’s mercies and favour that enabled him to even address them.

(It is actually God’s favour that I am here until now. I didn’t imagine I’d be here now but if indeed you believe in God, things just happen. Today I have believed God can get you to places if you cry unto him),” he said.

His choice of words looks like as if he was bidding them farewell as it was his last known public appearance before he was admitted to hospital until his death.
