Bukhungu Stadium to host AFCON 2027, assures Sports CS Salim Mvurya

Bukhungu Stadium, currently under construction in Kakamega County, is set to be ready in time to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Mr Salim Mvurya, confirmed today.
During a tour of the stadium’s construction site, Mvurya assured the public that the national government is committed to ensuring the facility meets the required standards to host the prestigious continental championship.
He emphasized that the stadium’s development will be completed on schedule, offering a world-class venue for the event.

Kakamega Governor H.E. Fernandes Barasa, who accompanied Mvurya during the inspection, expressed confidence in the progress of the stadium’s construction.
He assured that all necessary measures are being taken to meet the stringent requirements for hosting the tournament, adding that the facility would play a pivotal role in enhancing sports development in the region.
