Lusaka calls for strategic investors to revive Nzoia sugar, rescue farmers

Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged strategic investors to step in and rescue the struggling Nzoia Sugar Company, citing prolonged mismanagement that has left farmers in financial distress.
Speaking in Kisumu County during the Nyanza International Investment Conference, Governor Lusaka emphasized the urgent need for investment in the sugar sector to restore the miller’s operations and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
“We need strategic partners to come and invest in the sugar sector. Nzoia Sugar, for instance, requires an immediate investor and proper management to address the long-standing challenges that have caused immense suffering for farmers,” Lusaka stated.
As the Vice Chair of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), Lusaka underscored the conference’s significance in advancing the region’s investment agenda. He noted that such networking forums enable counties to attract investment and unlock economic potential.
The governor further called for enhanced infrastructural collaboration among counties, particularly in developing inter-county road networks to spur economic growth in the region.
The three-day conference was attended by key dignitaries, including Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Governors, investment partners, and other industry stakeholders.
