Devolution key tool for progress – Lusaka
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka has called for renewed commitment to the principles of devolution, highlighting its role in fostering equitable resource distribution and grassroots empowerment.
Addressing a gathering at Tom Mboya Labour College during the State of the County Address, Lusaka hailed devolution as a transformative pillar of Kenya’s governance.
He spotlighted strides in health, agriculture, and infrastructure, noting improved rural healthcare facilities and upgraded road networks as evidence of devolution’s impact.
However, he also raised concerns over delayed disbursements, underfunding, and political interference, urging timely funding and better intergovernmental collaboration.
Lusaka advocated for innovation in financial management, inclusion of marginalized groups, and civic education to enhance accountability and service delivery.
He emphasized the need for regional cooperation to tackle shared challenges and reduce disparities.
“The success of devolution depends on our collective resolve to make it a beacon of hope for all Kenyans,” Lusaka concluded, calling for unity in safeguarding its gains and addressing its challenges.
