Lusaka launches construction of KSh740 Million state-of-the-art markets in Bungoma

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has launched the construction of over KSh 740 million state-of-the-art markets in a bid to boost trade and business in the border county.

One of the markets, the KSh 343 million Chwele Strategic Market, aims to provide a modern trading hub for over 1,000 local traders, marking a significant milestone in the county’s economic development agenda.

The one-storey County strategic market facility will feature modern stalls, cold rooms, revenue offices, conference room, mother’s room, ICT hub, washing area, offloading and loading zones among others .

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony on December 3, Governor Lusaka emphasised the project’s role in driving economy and positioning Chwele as a regional economic powerhouse.

β€œThis project will transform Chwele into a regional economic hub, attracting investors and spurring development in Bungoma County,” he stated.

This infrastructure is expected to be completed in 18 months and will enhance service delivery, boost local commerce, and support community livelihoods.

On the same day, Governor Lusaka officially launched the construction of the KSh 400 million Soko Kubwa market, a state-of-the-art facility designed to boost local trade.

The three-storey market boasts of modern stalls, ICT hubs, revenue offices, toilets, a mother’s room, and parking areas, among other amenities.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Lusaka emphasized the importance of involving the local labor force and youth in the project to foster economic empowerment within the community.

The market, set for completion in 18 months, is expected to ease congestion and provide traders with a more conducive environment for business operations .
