Tim Wanyonyi launches construction of 14 classrooms, Defends NG-CDF, calls for ODM reforms
Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi has reinforced his commitment to education, grassroots development, and political accountability by laying foundation stones for 14 new classrooms in his constituency.
These projects include 10 Junior Secondary School (JSS) classrooms at Westlands Primary School and four additional classrooms at North Highridge Secondary School.
During the events, the MP also defended the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and called for reforms within the ODM party.

At Westlands Primary School, where 10 new JSS classrooms will be built with integrated ramps and staircases, MP Wanyonyi emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure in creating a conducive learning environment.
โOur work is to ensure good infrastructure for our children. Some of us went through difficult conditions in school, but I vowed to change that. We must prepare our children now because the foundation is critical for their future,โ said Wanyonyi.
The MP highlighted past initiatives at the school, including constructing a modern dormitory complex and refurbishing older classrooms, ensuring that public schools can compete with private institutions.
At North Highridge Secondary School, where four new classrooms will also include ramps for accessibility, Wanyonyi reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing education facilities across the constituency.
โWe are here to ensure these classrooms are delivered on time. To the contractors: give us quality work. Education is my priorityโnot just infrastructure but also retaining children in school through scholarships and other support systems,โ he said.

MP Wanyonyi took the opportunity to address the challenges facing NG-CDF, which has been declared unconstitutional by the courts. The ruling, however, was suspended for 26 months to allow Parliament to appeal.
โWithout NG-CDF, projects like these classrooms would be impossible. Before NG-CDF, everything depended on the Ministry of Education, and you had to lobby endlessly for funds. Now, development is just a few meters away,โ he noted.
He criticized county governors for pushing to abolish NG-CDF, arguing that many counties have failed to show accountability for funds already allocated to them.
โGovernors should account for the billions they receive before asking for more. NG-CDF is a small but highly effective fund with minimal misappropriation. It directly benefits the people and delivers tangible results,โ he said.
The MP called on constituents to support efforts to safeguard NG-CDF, warning that its abolition would make grassroots development more challenging.
โThis money is for the people. If it goes back to the central government, accessing such funds will be a nightmare. We need your voices to protect it for future generations.โ

As the ODM party prepares for ward, constituency and county elections, Wanyonyi, who serves as Nairobi County ODM Chairperson, advocated for a fair and transparent process. He dismissed the idea of harmonized lists and called for elections to reinvigorate the party.
โODM must hold free and fair elections at all levelsโfrom polling station to national. We need fresh ideas to revitalize the party, especially in Nairobi, where we have faced challenges,โ he said.
The MP criticized competitors he accused of associating with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, a member of UDA, to influence ODM elections.
โThose working with Sakaja to bribe voters will be exposed. We need leaders who are loyal to ODM and its vision, not those seeking shortcuts,โ he remarked.
Wanyonyi declared his intention to be elected as ODMโs Nairobi Chairperson and urged members to support his bid for election.
โWe need new energy and fresh leadership to move ODM forward. Those suffocating the party with outdated strategies must step aside for progress to take place.โ

Wanyonyi also addressed broader political issues, urging Kenyans to hold leaders accountable and demand better governance.
โOur country is facing challenges, but there is always hope. Leadership must remain accountable, and those who fail to deliver should not take the people for granted. Parliament is not a marketplaceโit is a platform for service delivery,โ he said.
The MP encouraged local families to enroll their children in public schools, citing the significant upgrades in infrastructure across Westlands as a reason to restore public confidence in the education system.
โSchools in Westlands are now on par with private schools in terms of infrastructure. Public education is not a second choiceโit is a priority for all,โ he emphasized.
