Malava MP optimistic sugar industry headed right direction

Malava Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi has hailed President William Ruto for signing into law the Sugar Bill saying it will revitalise the country’s troubled sugar industry.

Injendi said the establishment of the law now paves way for the re-establishment of the defunct Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) that will be mandated with the running of the ailing sugar subsector.

He said farmers and sugar factories stand to benefit now that the law is in place adding it will see the growth of the sugar industry.

” The law will put in measures that will ensure the industry thrives,” he stated in an interview with the media.

President Ruto on Friday signed the Sugar Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 34 of 2022) into law at State House Nairobi.

This was after both the Parliament and Senate assented to the Bill that was co-sponsored by Navakholo Member of Parliament Emmanuel Wangwe and Bungoma Senator David Wakoli.

The legislator revealed that the law is set to address the increased cost of production in the sector and also control exports and imports that he said had greatly affected the sector .

He observed that the re-established KSB will comprise 14 members that will include famers representatives, millers and governments agencies.
