Release County funds, Governor Barasa tells Mbadi

There is need for the national treasury to swiftly release county funds on time to enhance development projects, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has said.

Most projects within Kakamega county are on a slow completion rate due to late release of county funds by the National Treasury.

Barasa has urged the national government to enhance faster transition of county funds from the treasury to enable counties initiate its various projects and pay its suppliers, workers and contractors.

Barasa spoke when he joined other faithful’s at Chevaywa Yearly Meeting where the Friends Quaker Church where the United Society of Friends Women (USFW) from across the country had camped for a prayer meeting with the theme ‘Inner healing taking centre stage’ (Luke 4:18) calling on the faithful to worship and serve the true living God alone.

The governor further expressed his frustrations over the delay in the remittance of county funds as they adversely affected the running operations of not only his Kakamega county but all the 47bvotrhers within the country.

“Governors across the country are struggling to complete their various initiated projects and we are subjected to backlash from the electorates for our dragging not knowing that it is the national government that is taking too long to release county funds and I’m calling on cabinet secretary for treasury Honorable John Mbadi to speed up county funds release to enable us meet our deadlines on projects initiated across the country,” he said.

He said the delay has let to many projects in the counties to lag behind schedule from the anticipated completion timeframe and this has seen many governors perceived as not working at all. 

Barasa who was accompanied by Lugari MP Nabi Nabwera assured the Chevaywa residents that the construction on the Sitati junction-Muhomo spring –Kivaywa road will resume soon.
