Boda Boda Fraternity in Malava Sub-County Impeaches Chairman Seth Mwanje Amid Accusations of Misconduct

In a dramatic turn of events that could rival the plot of a political thriller, the Boda Boda fraternity in Malava sub-county has impeached their outspoken chairman, Seth Mwanje. Members have leveled a series of serious allegations against him, including intimidation, unscrupulous behavior, and abuse of office. The decision was unanimously made during a meeting attended by representatives from all seven wards, revealing a significant rift within the leadership.

Accusations against Mwanje have taken on a life of their own, with members asserting that he has displayed an unyielding bias in his dealings. Most notably, they claim he has favored his home area, East Kabras ward, in the allocation of leadership roles, creating a perception that the Boda Boda fraternity is more of a “one-man show” rather than a collective effort. It seems that when it came to sharing the podium, Mwanje had a tendency to play solo.

The financial allegations are equally concerning, as members recounted a recent episode during the president’s launch of a water project in Namanja area, Butali Chegulo ward. While the fraternity was promised 80,000 Kenyan shillings in reimbursement, only a handful of members walked away with the agreed 500 shillings. This incident raised more eyebrows than a magician at a card table, prompting acrimonious questions about where the rest of the money vanished.

Transparency—or the glaring lack thereof—was another significant nail in Mwanje’s coffin. Reports suggest that he often ran ward-level meetings, sidestepping elected chairmen and effectively relegating them to the sidelines. It appears that Mwanje operated under the belief that sharing power was akin to sharing dessert: simply not his style. The unraveling of Mwanje’s leadership has also turned into a soap opera of sorts, as tensions rose with local political figures, including the area Member of Parliament.

In a particularly theatrical twist, Mwanje alleged that an aide to the MP had attempted to intimidate him, claiming it was all tied to his plans for demonstrations over the appalling state of roads in South Kabras. One can only wonder if this saga will prompt the making of a local docudrama.Furthermore, the Boda Boda members have accused Mwanje of engaging in less-than-savory activities for personal gain, alleging that he has disrupted various empowerment initiatives meant to benefit the fraternity.

The “great cow heist” of Manda Shivanga Ward—where a cow purchased for group empowerment mysteriously disappeared alongside its sale proceeds—has added to the growing list of grievances against him. Who knew bovine matters could lead to bovine drama? In a bid for renewal, the members have installed Bonface Shinyikha, the former chairman of Butali Chegulo ward, as the interim sub-county chairman. Shinyikha has pledged to steer the Boda Boda sector back on course while nurturing relationships with local leaders. He faces the daunting task of turning around a community that seemingly has had more twists and turns than a mountain road.

The fallout from this episode serves as a potent reminder that even in grassroots organizations, the principles of governance and accountability are paramount. As the Boda Boda fraternity navigates this turbulent period, the community will be watching closely to see if Shinyikha’s interim leadership can bring about much-needed change and a renewed sense of trust among its members.

In a world where power can corrupt, the Boda Boda fraternity may just find a smoother ride ahead—provided they steer clear of potholes both literal and metaphorical.
