Gachagua must go, Wetang’ula-led Ford-Kenya Party declares
As Kenyans wait with bated breath to witness the tabling of the motion before the National Assembly Tuesday for the removal of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office, Ford Kenya party has publicly made clear its position to support the removal of the DP.
Speaking to journalists at parliament buildings, Ford Kenya Secretary general John Chikati of Tongaren said that as a party they can not support a leader of the calibre of the current deputy president.
“This is a leader as Ford Kenya we can not support, and because of these reasons as a party we are going to join other members of parliament in ensuring that as from tomorrow we start the debate for him to go home. In short we are going to impeach him and take it from me, he is going to be impeached,” said Chikati.
Chikati who was accompanied by Bungoma Senator Daviid Wafula Wakoli cited a number of reasons as to why the DP should be removed from office among them ethnicity which he said the DP has been vouching for his own community yet he is supposed to support the president to unify the country.
At the same time the first term legislator noted that after Gachagua is impeached then President William Ruto should appoint another deputy who has qualities of unifying Kenyans and not promoting segments in the country.
The Ford Kenya SG’s declaration comes a day after the speaker of the national assembly who is the party leader of the Lion Party Moses Wetangula also announced his support for the removal of Gachagua famously known as Riggy G.
National assembly deputy speaker Gladys Boss Shollei is also on record making her position known publicly that indeed the August House will impeach deputy president when that motion is tabled and debated.
Over 200 members of parliament are reported to have appended their signatures to the impending motion of removal against a threshold of 117 members required to pass the motion.
In that backdrop, Sheria Mtaani lobby group has moved to court Monday to file case to stop the impeachment motion of the DP in the national assembly claiming that he will not be accorded a fair hearing after the two speakers who are supposed to be neutral as referees have already taken sides with those calling for his removal.
