Teachers, leaders heap praises on outgoing Namanja Principal: He was exemplary
Kenya Secondary Heads Association (KESSHA) Kakamega North has lauded the good leadership skills of the Principal of Friends Secondary School Namanja.
The school sponsor, the Friends (Quakers) Church, has also heaped praises on the retired Principal John Wafula Kharemwa, for his exemplary work during his tenure.
The two groups speaking during the farewell party held in honour of the Principal, rained praise on his management skills as they acknowledged that he was one of his kind, worth emulating.
Led by chairperson and Principal, Friends Secondary School Mang’uliro Madam Salano Simwa, the office appreciated one of their own for making them proud by not only initiating various projects, but also increasing the enrollment at the school and performance, pushing the institution into the academic limelight.
The other Kessha team that comprised of Martin Waswa Principal Bulupi Secondary, Paul Shitanda (Matioli Salvation Army), Francis Memeti (Namushiya), Philip Andala (Shirugu), Joy Okech Mulama (Vashele), Catherine Kasembeli Shitikho (Manyonje) and incumbent Shem Memeti Kulecho who were present to see off their colleague, did not mince their words over the good work the principal had executed while at the institution wishing him a quiet and peaceful retirement.
Friends Church General Superintendent Cleopas Kharinda and his Presiding clerk Dr. Harrison Kavingwa who represented the sponsors, celebrated the good working relationship the school management and the church enjoyed an urged the incoming principal (Memeti) to ensure continuity.
“We as Quaker Church have no problems with principals who are not of our faith being posted in our schools and we have always worked well with them as long as they adhere to our doctrines, demands in our institutions unlike in other faith where it is mandatory that the principal should be of their faith,” noted Kavingwa.
Kharinda observed that most schools within have a cordial working relationship with the sponsor church with the main aim of ensuring the schools produce good results.
The school board of management (BOM) through Dr. Isaac Motochi Taracha, assured the stakeholders that principal worked well with the board in initiating various projects with the physics laboratory that saw interest in sciences increasing.
“Mr. Wafula was not known beyond the nearby market for he was a man of very few words but his development actions spoke louder and his style of leadership saw the school population double from 400 to 900 with an additional of 100 more new students for the short time of only five years he has been here, he has also scouted for the school bus for us that is now in the process of being designed and soon it will be ready,” he said.
The principal Shem Memeti Kulecho who has taken over the leadership mantle, confirmed that the school was in good hands and he will ensure that the best the school can do to return favour to the outgoing principal was to register more university entries in this year’s KCSE exams.
“I’m delighted to be part of the Namanja family and I will continue to keep the academic torch alive and thank the ministry of education, area MCA and MP for their tireless efforts to see the school prosper and I assure them that we will continue to work together as a team to better this wonderful school,” Kulecho said.
Area MCA Kevin Mahelo (Butali /Chegulo ward) assured the 2024 KCSE candidates that he will continue to support them through his contribution to support them by purchasing rice during the exam period
