Malalah, Khalende UDA scuffle opens lid on youthful, powerful voices in Ruto’s party
The recent scuffles witnessed at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party headquarters in Nairobi where lawyer Joe khalende declared himself the secretary general has brought to limelight three powerful youthful individuals not in public eye but who have the attention of the president.
A youthful politician from Malava constituency in Kakamega and another one from the former Rift Valley province are among individuals who are believed to have hatched a plan to oust Cleophas Malalah.
They claim the former Kakamega senator had turned the party into a personal property, rewarding his cronies, most of the positions and privileges at the expense of individuals who have fought for the party from scratch.
Malala was in the Amani National Congress (ANC) of Musalia Mudavadi, which is finalising the merger process with the ruling party before his appointment in acting capacity as the secretary general.
So powerful are the politicians that they have access to the high office and enjoy power trappings at will and no one can dare touch them.
The political grave mistake that Malalah committed was to unleash his youth to inflict injuries on Khalende, unaware that the whole script may have been written at the highest office in the land after he was believed to be opposing the government that he serves.
Sources say that he is leaning to the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s side and claims that the recent meetings called in Kakamega may have received funding from the DP could be true.
The team has achieved in ousting Malala, but what next?
The next step is unclear even as Hassan Omar Hassan takes over the reigns of the party as the new Secretary General.
Back to the youthful politicians calling shots is that little is known about them, but they live a modest life.
For instance, the one from Malava has gone out full throttle in defending the ruling party as he rolls around with a well oiled convoy every weekend.
He drives state of art cars, among them a newly acquired latest model of Mercedes Benz.
Many say he maybe a having a political ambition in the future, and should he make a move, they argue that he poses a threat to any possible challenger as he has deep pockets.
A close friend to him told this writer that he may go for a parliamentary position held by Malulu Injendi.
The one from Rift Valley previously campaigned to become the senator of Uasin Gishu County and lost.
Recently, he had a family ceremony at his home where Khalende and the Malava politician were among his guests.
What is clear is that the trio was in the presidential campaign team earlier than any other individual, and they have made several visits in Malava constituency both on political and private meetings.
