Mama Beatrice Barasa, a widow from Mumias East, begs for help to take her daughter to University

A widow from Khaunga village in Mumias East constituency has urged area MP Peter Salasya to support her in paying the fees for her daughter to join Maasai Mara University.

Beatrice Barasa said her daughter, Dorine Barasa, sat for the KCSE exams last year at Marobo Secondary School in Bungoma County and attained a mean grade of B plain, qualifying to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Arts.

The widow stated that she has nothing to offer for the payment of university fees apart from a pig she is rearing, as she has no piece of land.

She expressed her desire to educate her children, emphasizing that education would provide better opportunities compared to early marriages.

She also appealed to other leaders and well-wishers to help her raise Ksh. 91,800 per semester.

She expressed gratitude towards MP Salasya for the support and hoped it would open doors for other bright students to join universities.

“My prayer is that apart from MP Salasya, anybody from the government or any well-wisher may support my cause and my siblings. I appeal to the MP to support with whatever he can so that I can make it to university,” Dorine said.

She stated that her goal after pursuing her education is to improve her family’s situation and support other needy students to join universities.

Dorine expressed her appreciation for the support from local leaders and well-wishers, as she plans to join university on August 26 this year.
