Shape up or ship out: Tande Sec Principal reads riot act to parents, students as he sets new standards

Parents of Friends Tande Secondary School have been asked to comply with the new school regulations or ship out as the school transforms itself academically.

Principal Dan Masitsa while addressing parents during the institutions Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 14, pointed out that the school was committed to a new and fresh start and that those who are not ready to embrace the change should walk out as the school.

He said the school will not stagnate academically because of a few parents who do not want to embrace change.

Masitsa who is currently transforming the school in terms of infrastructure and enrolment said it was time for the school to wake up from its academic slumber and start recording good results.

“We have hit the ground running and as a school manager I will not sit and watch my school crumble academically and that is why we are putting appropriate measures to reignite the good old Tande that was academically and co-curricular wise known, and as we prepare to walk this journey together, I expect no hurdles be it from the parents, teachers and even staff in achieving our long awaited goals,” he said.

The manager who has started overhauling the school through bringing on board new young teaching staff, insisted that it was only through such positive changes that will return the institution back to its academic radar.

While criticizing the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results where the school had a sole university entry, he said it was important for the stakeholders to accept that the results were wanting as a first step and then bringing onboard the needed change in performance.

“We have a few disciplinary issues with boy-girl relationships being rampant but we are firmly dealing with such cases and soon we will separate the two genders from freely mixing,” he said.

“We want our boys and girls to respect themselves and concentrate on their studies first as that is their main mandate as to why they are in school and with discipline we will not compromise considering our performance is wanting,” noted Masitsa.

Some of the challenges the school is undergoing was the grounding of the school bus where by the diff and propeller and axle were stolen despite the closed circuit television (CCTV) capturing him, the face was not identified and further the engine was laced with salt hence destroying it.

He revealed that repairs had left the institution with a debt of about Ksh400,000 for the bus to get back on the road.
