Chaos as Kakamega Woman Rep, Governor supporters clash
By Wakhungu Andanje.
Supporters of Kakamega county Governor Fernandes Barasa who had attended Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda’s function in Malava had to be saved by police officers after the event turned chaotic on Monday.
Chaos erupted after a section started booing and jeering the Woman Rep as kicks and blows flew around.
Barasa’s supporters were irked when Muhanda poked holes in his administration especially on skewed development in the county.
Muhanda had pitched camp in Malava at Kakoyi Primary School, the home turf of one of Barasa’s chief officer.
It is believed the Chief Officer had mobilised the goons to heckle the Woman Rep who has declared interest to vie for the gubernatorial seat in 2027.
She questioned where the annual allocation of about Sh17 billion goes to, a thing that did not sit well with Barasa’s men.
Some bodaboda riders who have benefited from Muhanda’s programme of enrolling them into driving schools joined the bandwagon lamenting that they had not received their driving licences and opposed her bid for replacing Barasa.
Addressing the press later after the incident, the aggrieved parties accused the security details of being slow on saving them from the angry mob and vowed to campaign for Fernandez Barasa second term in office.
Muhanda has accused the Kakamega governor of discriminative bursary allocation where only two wards in the sub county Manda Shivanga and South Kabras were the only ones who had received the Ksh2Million each leaving out the other five wards.
“Barasa is playing dirty politics and toying around with the county funds, why didn’t he distribute the funds to all the wards that children can have bursary but what he is doing is denying other learners from the wards an opportunity to go to school,” she said.
She said it was time the governor was sent home as the affairs of the county had become too heavy for him and assured the voters that she will floor him come 2027.
