Killed: Prophet David Owuor’s Kakamega Pastor beheaded in broad daylight
A pastor in Kakamega has been beheaded at his business premises in broad daylight by individuals believed to be his relatives and neighbours.
The incident that happened on Thursday, June 20 at Lukume market, initially thought to be a robbery, left nothing stolen from the victim.
Mutula Otiemo, a local pastor of the Dr. Prophet David Owuor-led Ministry of Repentance and Holiness Church, was an established businessman running a hardware store at Lukume Market in Kakamega North sub-county.
His body was discovered in a pool of blood at his shop after a heavy daytime downpour.
One suspected assailant was apprehended in a sugarcane plantation but was subsequently killed by an angry mob.
The two bodies are now lying in a Kakamega mortuary as police launch a manhunt for other suspects who remain at large.
Insecurity cases are on the rise in the area, with local police accused of shielding suspects and sometimes colluding with them.
Interfaith leaders, led by Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church regional Bishop Elly Taliti, have condemned the killing.
They have called on the relevant authorities to act swiftly and bring the culprits to justice, adding that such acts are a curse on the community.
