President Ruto will win 2027 polls – Mudavadi

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has predicted an early win for President William Ruto’s second term in office in the coming 2027 General Election.

With only eight months to the election, Musalia has dismissed the opposition as delusional and fragmented, saying it is incapable of putting up a fight.

Speaking in Vihiga County during a meeting with church leaders, Musalia said he was optimistic that President William Ruto would secure re-election, arguing that the opposition was engulfed in internal wrangles ahead of the polls.

The PCS said Ruto stood a high chance of garnering 50% plus one vote and more than 25% of the votes in 24 counties to be declared the winner, as his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), through the broad-based formation, had massive representation across the country.

“I am here to assure you today that President William Ruto will win the 2027 elections in a free and fair manner, as he already has structures across the country, unlike the opposition, which is struggling to establish theirs within a very limited period,” he said.

Musalia, who was accompanied by various leaders from Western Kenya, drummed up support for William Ruto’s re-election, hitting out at the opposition for misleading locals with empty promises.

“Already, we are seeing what the government is doing for our region in terms of development, yet the opposition is coming here empty-handed, trying to sell propaganda to you that you should support them to win the election. Why would we leave a working government to support a disunited opposition that has no clue how government is run?” he wondered.

He said Western Kenya should fully support the government of the day and secure more representation in both county assemblies and the National Assembly to enable more people from the region to be nominated and appointed to head various parliamentary committees.

The region has only two MPs heading parliamentary committees: Dan Wanyama, who chairs the Sports Committee, and Tindi Mwale, who chairs the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Musalia criticised the manner in which the opposition, led by impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, had been feeding Kenyans what he termed pure lies about the operations of the government. He claimed Gachagua had a personal vendetta against his former boss, William Ruto, following his dismissal.

He cautioned Kenyans, particularly voters from Western Kenya, against being lured into supporting Gachagua, whom he described as insincere.

“Let Kenyans be aware that this man was impeached; hence, he cannot hold public office until after ten years or the courts decide otherwise. That is why he is very angry, bitter, seeking revenge and lying through his teeth. He should not be given a chance to decide for Kenyans who should be President,” said Mudavadi.

“He is a serial liar, and even if he went for a competition, you would not defeat him. This is not the person Kenyans should entertain at all.”

The leader urged Kenyans to embrace and elect politicians who could foster peace and unity within the country.

Democracy, he added, was the foundation of peace and unity in a country, and the coming polls should reflect the same.

“We are hosting over 40,000 refugees from Ethiopia here in Kenya, with some holed up in Moyale refugee camps, schools and churches. As a country, we have to be very careful with our utterances lest we sink the country into chaos.”

He also questioned retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s intentions in allegedly funding the Linda Mwananchi team led by Edwin Sifuna to unseat President William Ruto, noting that if he were sincere, he could have allowed Sifuna to vie through his Jubilee Party.

“Both Gachagua and Uhuru are duping Edwin Sifuna, and the earlier he realises it, the better for him, as he has already been zoned to campaign only in the Western region.”

He dismissed the opposition being fronted through Linda Mwananchi, arguing that it did not have enough money to run and manage the political outfit, as it was not eligible to receive political parties’ funding.

“I have had a party (ANC) and managed it before I folded it, and I must tell you that it is not easy to run a political party. The opposition is in no position to manage Linda Mwananchi from their pockets, and soon they will face the harsh reality.”

Musalia maintained that he would continue supporting William Ruto because of what he described as impressive development projects being witnessed in Western Kenya for the first time in history.

“We are seeing massive transformation in infrastructure, ranging from the Rironi-Mau Summit to Malaba dual carriageway, Naivasha-Malaba Standard Gauge Railway, Eldoret-Kapsabet dual carriageway and the expansion of Kakamega Referral Hospital to Level 6, as part of the benefits the region is getting from the current administration.”

He said the infrastructure transformation would open up the region to economic development while easing the transportation of people and goods.

He further said the government had injected Ksh4.4 trillion into county governments across all 47 counties over the last 15 years since the advent of devolution.

He criticised the opposition for faulting the government over its development agenda, arguing that other African countries were implementing similar projects.

“We are busy blocking the development of our roads, affordable housing and airports, while in Egypt, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, such projects are being implemented with the full support of citizens.”

He called on church leaders to preach peace and stability as the country enters the campaign period to enable it to achieve its economic and social development agendas.

“We shall be having another huge meeting with church leaders from Western Kenya to make it clear that the region should not be taken for granted.”

He maintained that ODM, through the broad-based formation, had become the biggest defender of the government and was bound to benefit more from it, while people in Western Kenya were being lured into joining an opposition he claimed had nothing to offer.
