Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior as The Blues turn to McFarlane for rescue
Chelsea have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior after a disappointing run of form, bringing an abrupt end to his short spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The club confirmed on Wednesday that Rosenior had parted company with the Blues, saying the decision followed a series of poor performances that had fallen below expectations during a crucial stage of the campaign.
In a statement, Chelsea thanked Rosenior and his coaching staff for their efforts since taking charge midway through the season, praising the former boss for the professionalism and integrity he showed throughout his tenure.
Club officials said the decision had not been taken lightly, but stressed that results on the pitch had made change unavoidable with the race for European qualification and progress in the FA Cup still at stake.
Rosenior leaves after only 107 days in charge, with Chelsea enduring a difficult spell that included five straight Premier League defeats without scoring.
The club has moved quickly to appoint Calum McFarlane as interim head coach until the end of the season. He will be supported by the existing backroom staff as Chelsea attempt to salvage their campaign.
Chelsea also signalled a broader review behind the scenes, saying the search for a permanent manager would involve a period of reflection aimed at finding the right long-term appointment.
The managerial change adds fresh uncertainty to another turbulent season at Stamford Bridge, where pressure remains high to restore consistency and return the club to European competition.
