Journalist John Wanyama launches school feeding programme for learners left out by Malava MP

Schools within Butali Chegulo Ward that were left out in the school feeding programme have now been brought onboard to begin enjoying the programme next term.

Journalist and aspiring Malava MP (2027) John Wanyama announced the inclusion of Matsakha, Shirambatsa, Shilongo, St Martins, Mukavakava, Tande, Avoka, Makhwabuye and Shipala comprehensive schools as slated for the second phase of the ward feeding initiative that he has commenced as one way of fighting hunger and retaining learners in school.

Wanyama, who is keenly vying for the Malava parliamentary seat currently held by MP David Ndakwa, said the feeding initiative was aimed at supporting learners by improving nutrition and fighting hunger among them.

The outspoken aspirant said it was his way of giving back to the community which brought him up, having undergone a lot during his school days as hunger greatly affected their learning and performance at school.

“I’m the son of the soil, having grown up in this environment and undergone the same situation these learners are in today, and the best we can do is to ensure that we provide food for them to be able to keep and maintain them in school for better results, and it is my prayer that God will give me the strength to continue supporting as many schools as possible, not only from my ward but across the constituency as well,” he said.

Wanyama, who is currently traversing the constituency initiating various projects for schools, boda bodas, women groups, widows, the elderly, youth and the community at large, has attracted a lot of support and following, with many residents terming him as God-sent.

The scribe has further initiated a monthly bread programme for schools within the ward, noting that bread was an essential food in the lives of learners.

“This initiative is meant to support learners by improving nutrition, boosting attendance and enhancing academic performance of the pupils,” he assured.

He said he was supporting the current Malava legislative leadership until 2027, when he will also present himself to the people to make their political decision.

John further hinted that several plans were underway to be rolled out, including strong leadership that will build strong networks to connect young people to job and business opportunities.

He warned that failure to have a plan to accommodate young people will leave them idle and exposed to many risks, including drugs, substance abuse and crime.

He called on leaders within to take responsibility and offer their support to see the youth achieve greatness.

At the same time, he has hailed the announcement from Malava MP David Ndakwa reassuring parents and students that the constituency bursary funds were available and ready to be disbursed to the applicants.

“We have received bursary news that the money is now available and ready to be dished out. Kindly do so that by next term the students can commence their education without any hindrance, as it has delayed being released in the first term.”

Wanyama also assured his supporters that he was still in the race, contrary to the ongoing rumours and a fake signed press statement purported to have been written by him declaring that he has stepped down from the race.

“I want to tell and assure my Malava supporters that I’m here to stay, and we are ready to face off with our political rivals at the ballot, and all I can tell them is that no amount of propaganda levelled against me will throw me off the ballot, as I have got my eyes on the prize (Malava MP seat),” he announced.

He called on the electorate to stand firm and make sound political decisions and not to be swayed by bribes and handouts.
