KDF officer arrested over murder of Wycliff Wanambuko in Bungoma

Detectives in Bungoma West have arrested a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) service man in connection with the murder of Wycliff Masasabi Wanambuko aged 45 years old.

The incident occurred at a social joint in Wamono Centre, Bungoma County.

The suspect, Corporal Moses Wamema Kirui of Lanet Barracks, was arrested on April 4, 2026 and remains in custody.

A blood-stained blue T-shirt believed to be linked to the incident was recovered and preserved as an exhibit, while the body of the deceased was moved to Bungoma County Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

Elsewhere, two male suspects were arrested after members of the public intercepted them while attempting to dump a body of an unidentified man along the Busia–Kisumu Highway near Savanah area in Ugunja Sub-County.

According to DCI reports, the suspects were subjected to mob injustice before police officers intervened and rescued them.

The duo, identified as Joseph Omondi (43) and Calisto Oyugi (38), were treated at Ambira Level 4 Hospital and later discharged. They remain in custody as investigations continue.

The body of the deceased, an unidentified male adult aged about 45 years with a visible head injury, was moved to Ambira Level 4 Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem.

A white Toyota Vitz, Reg. No. KCB 949N, believed to have been used in the incident, was recovered at the scene and detained as an exhibit.
