KSB elections now set for September
The long waited Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) elections for five grower directors will now be conducted in September.
According to KSB Grower Directors Elections Committee chairman Harun Khator, the eagerly awaited polls set for September 6 will mark a major milestone towards fully operationalizing the Board.
Khator who is also the the Secretary Administration in the State Department for Livestock Development said the decision was reached at after consultation with stakeholders including Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe that was held at the latters Kilimo House office where the date was unanimously settled on.
In attendance were KSB Chief Executive Officer Jude Chesire and other industrial stakeholders.
Elections notice will be published today (August 6), Khator disclosed.
Khator called for collaboration amongst industry stakeholders to ensure the elections are a success.
“We shall work with all stakes to ensure the elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the law, ” he said.
On her part, Chesire observed that the election of the five regional directors to the Board was long overdue stating their non-availability had stagnated crucial Board decision affecting the sugar industry.
She said: “Several decisions requiring approval including matters relating to Sugar Development Levy will now be resolved once the Board is fully constituted.”
