Behave like visitors, don’t disrespect us, Lusaka tells politicians visiting Bungoma

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged politicians from outside the county to respect local leaders when attending public functions in Bungoma, saying some visiting leaders have recently used such platforms to spread insults and misinformation.

Speaking at Kachonge during the burial of former nominated MP Patrick Wangamati, the father of former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Lusaka criticized what he termed as a growing trend of outsiders using funerals and other public gatherings to lecture residents on issues affecting the county.

“There are those who come here for funerals but pretend as if they understand the problems of Bungoma better than the owners themselves,” Lusaka said.

The governor said it was unfortunate that some leaders from outside the county had chosen to engage in divisive politics instead of respecting the leadership and aspirations of the local people.

At the same time, Lusaka lauded President William Ruto for initiating and supporting key development projects in Bungoma, citing the ongoing construction of the Level Six Hospital at Sang’alo as one of the transformative investments aimed at improving healthcare services in the region.

“These are no mean achievements. The President has demonstrated commitment to the development of Bungoma through projects that will have a lasting impact on our people,” he said.

Lusaka further called on the Luhya community to support President Ruto, arguing that backing the Head of State would strengthen the region’s bargaining power and political positioning ahead of future elections.

He said the community should work closely with the President while strategically preparing for the post-Ruto political era, noting that unity would be crucial in advancing the region’s interests at the national level.

The governor spoke before hundreds of mourners, leaders and family members who had gathered to pay their last respects to the late Patrick Wangamati, remembered for his contribution to the development and political history of Bungoma County.
