Oparanya praised Barasa’s commitment to the broad-based government and its delivery to the people of Kakamega.
This unexpected endorsement comes as a boost to Barasa’s re-election campaign with Oparanya’s influence and reach in Kakamega politics likely to sway voters.
“We will support Barasa for his second term due to his commitment to the broad-based government that is delivering to the people of Kakamega,” Oparanya said.
Oparanya had earlier backed Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda for the gubernatorial bid in 2027.
He has been organising public rallies where he was seen endorsing Elsie, where he acknowledged her work in Kakamega.
Governor Barasa, who was present at the funeral, did not hide his joy. He thanked Oparanya for publicly coming out to declare him as the best candidate in 2027
Barasa, who has been vocal about his achievements, welcomed the endorsement, saying that if he will be elected again, he will change Kakamega for the best.
“I am grateful for the support and promise to continue serving the people of Kakamega with dedication and integrity.”
The move has sparked speculation about Oparanya’s next political strategy, some suggesting that he might be eyeing a bigger role in national politics.
As Kakamega gears up for the elections, the Oparanya-Barasa impact could be a game-changer.
Other leaders present asked fellow leaders to unite, saying that luhyas are united, but their leaders are busy dividing them for their personal gains.
Led by Butere member of parliament Tindi Mwale, they said it is high time for leaders to unite, but not luhyas.
“Luhyas are united, but we leaders lack unity at all,” Mwale said
