I won’t impose, pick your own leader, Mudavadi tells Malava residents

The Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced that he will not impose a leader on the people of Malava as they prepare to elect a new MP following the death of their legislator early this year.

Speaking in Malava during a meeting with teachers at Tande Secondary School, Mudavadi said he was not ready to endorse any candidate ahead of the by-election but challenged the residents to pick a leader of their choice.

“What have I come here to do? I want to tell you I am not here to support anybody. I will not endorse any one and you won’t hear me do that. Elect your own leader,” Mudavadi said as he started his address to over 3000 teachers in attendance.

The late MP Moses Injendi Malulu was a member of the ANC party then led by Mudavadi.

ANC has since been dissolved and joined UDA I Kenya Kwanza.

The party has attracted at least five candidates including former teachers Simon Kangwana, Enock Andanje, MCA David Ndakwa, Advocate Leonard Shimaka and the late MP’s son Rhyan Injendi.

It had been widely expected that Mudavadi would root for Ndakwa, the current West Kabras MCA who was also a member of ANC.

Mudavadi argued that teachers are the backbone of the society and that they hold the key to leading the area towards greatness by picking a leader who will represent them with dignity in Parliament.

He said the area needs to elect a person who has the knowledge, vision and understands what leadership means.

At the same time, he called on the residents to discard clan politics saying it was an outdated way of doing politics.

“I also come from a clan, but let us not go there,” he said.

The area is in an active campaign mood as different political camps position themselves in a bid to clinch the vacant seat.
