Malava residents hail Barasa for appointing Diminah Chikamai, Mafuta Mukoyani as Chief Officers
Malava sub-county continues to celebrate after it bagged two major appointments in the Governor Fernandes Barasa’s government.
Out of the 14 appointments announced on July 16, two were from the subcounty.
Celebrations in praise of Barasa’s leadership continued on Thursday in Sundulo village, Shirugu-Mugai Ward after the locals took to the roads chanting ‘Barasa tano tena’ following the appointment of CPA Diminah Chikamai as chief officer, Financial Management.

The residents who addressed the media lauded the move as it will open up the village to more development now that they have more representation at the county.
Led by Daniel Shitanda Isaiah, a businessman, they stated that governor Barasa has now started remembering the Malava people through such appointments and other development initiatives that have begun to materialize.
The businessman further singled out the market lighting that has improved business in the area as more traders can safely ply their trade even at night without the fear of being mugged.
“This progress is beneficial to our people as we can now attest that we are part of the Barasa administration diligently,” he said.
Another trader Josephine Murunga a resident and vegetable vendor at the Sundulo market said the appointment will along way to scouting votes for the Governor in the largest sub county that has been complaining of underdevelopment since he assumed office three years ago.

“We now feel equally represented and now if someone comes here and talks about Barasa we can listen and tell them what good he has done to us as the Shirugu Mugai ward especially picking our young girl to be the chief officer in charge of Financial Management, this is a huge milestone to us as women as we feel also part of this county government finally,” she said.
Another son of the soil Lawrence Mafuta Mukoyani was also nominated to head the vibrant youths and sports docket and his nomination was met with joy and celebrations.
Through an official notice released on Wednesday, July 16, the governor announced the nominated persons, who were shortlisted after a competitive recruitment drive and interviews conducted at the county.

The nominations which are set to uplift critical areas of the county government, including economic planning, ICT, financial management, public health, youths and sports, roads and energy, lands, survey and physical planning as well as county administration are key for the day to day running of the county affairs.
“Following competitive recruitment and interviews of shortlisted candidates by the county public service board (CPSB) and according to section 45(1) of the county governments Act 2012, 1 hereby nominate the following officers for appointment as chief officers subject to approval by the county assembly,” read the notice by the governor.
