Joy as Mafuta Mukoyani lands top job as Barasa appoints new officers
It was drama and dance for the residents of Malava after Kakamega county government appointed their own Lawrence Mafuta Mukoyani as the youths and sports chief officer.
The long-awaited appointment caught many unawares after many had given up as they expected his appointment early after the governor assumed office in 2023.
The jubilations filled the Malava environment following the announcement late on Wednesday, July 16 afternoon.
The appointment comes at a point when the governor has been experiencing some political resistance from the sub county following his failure to recognize Mukoyani who was his pointman for the governor’s votes in Malava which saw him clinch the gubernatorial seat.
Despite Barasa campaigning on an ODM ticket with Cleophas Malala coming with UDA party Mukoyani through his voice of Malava fought a tirelessly to safeguard a sizeable vote that saw him beat Cleophas Malala.
Mukoyani who resonates well with the young people launched youth campaigns to drum support not only for the governor but ODM in Malava in what came to see him being left out in the political when the governor took power and instead his purported position was awarded to someone else.
The 2022campaigns which were being conducted during the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic was a tough that needed one to sacrifice himself and so did Mukoyani.
The fall out after election between the two was instigated by some individuals who were out to satisfy their selfish interests and hence locked him out of the governors preferred list.
His comeback has come as a shocker to his political nemesis and those who thought his bond with the governor was forever cut.
Confirming his appointment Mukoyani has hailed the governor for recognizing and honoring his efforts during the campaigns and more so it is a chance for the youths to have their own representation at the county assembly.
“I’m still digesting this news and I’ll be issuing out my official statement over it but it is a good thing to be appreciated. An old friend who knows your worth as far as service delivery is concerned and I’m just the man to transform the sports and youth affairs,” he said.
