Disjointed Opposition positions Barasa for 2nd term as Kakamega boss

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa is likely to be handed an easy chance to serve a second term by the elctorate as confusion rocks his opponents who are yet to decide on who will face him with just two years to the next general election.

In the recent past,it was clear that county woman representative Elsie Muhanda would be his opponent, but her latest moves suggest that she may back the Butere legislator Christopher Aseka and this has caused more harm than good to her campaigns that had taken shape in the entire county.

Muhanda, it is claimed that she has run broke and is relying on services of a car hire company to move around, raising questions on her ability to mount a serious campaign without support.

Muhanda it is claimed was relying in the former governor Wycliffe Oparanya support and funding that has since become elusive as his close associates allude he is also struggling financially with many cases on impropriety at the time he served at the county hounding him.

Barasa and Oparanya don’t see eye to eye.

Aseka, according to close associates, is considering nominating Ikolomani Mp Bernard Shinali as his running mate, and Muhanda will seek a third term as a county woman representative.

Many say the duo candidature is dead on arrival and that it will be a walk in the park for Barasa as his closest challenger in the past election former county senator CleophasMalala is considering vying for the senators position which he believes is an easy take as the current holder Bonnie Khalwale has declared interest to go for the gubernatorial position.

It is not clear whether deputy governor Ayub Savula will be retained by Barasa in 2027, but many are advising him to get his replacement from the Northern subcounties of the county that comprises of Likuyani, Lugari and Malava.
