Malava residents root for CDF, say has positive impact

Residents of Malava constituency came out in large numbers so as to get an opportunity to share their views on the future of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) as the National Assembly continued on public hearings on Tuesday 6th May 2025.

The hearings, which formed part of the public participation process on the proposed Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill No. 4 of 2025 is to take place in all 290 constituencies and 47 counties.

The bill aims to secure the NG-CDF, the Senate Oversight Fund, and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) in the Constitution.

If approved, the Fund will be enshrined in the Constitution to ensure their continued existence and legality, following past legal challenges regarding their constitutional standing.

Constituency Manager Humprey Sechelo led the officials from the headquarters Nairobi and regional under Mary Gorrete Wanjala in collecting the views and many participants voted for the continued existence of the funds which they said had positively impacted on the lives of many especially children from poor families who have had their education funded.

Area member of county assembly led by the minority leader and West Kabras representative David Ndakwa hailed the Fund saying any attempt to terminate is suicidal to the Kenyan populace that has depended on it.

The office also took the opportunity to distribute bursaries to institutions of higher learning and students in schools outside the constituency, and stakeholders have hailed the award process as fair.

Earlier schools from around the constituency received cash for fees of students as Sechelo called on management’s to consider prudent use of funds they receive while adding that projects that were ongoing before the death of area Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi will be funded to completion.
