No pay for bad work, Lusaka tells sloppy contractors

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has issued a stern warning to contractors constructing Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms, cautioning that payments will be withheld for substandard work.

Speaking in Bumula during the launch of ECD learning materials distribution, the Governor expressed outrage over the poor workmanship witnessed in some schools, which he said has left young learners exposed to unsafe and unhygienic conditions.

“I want to make it clear to contractors handling ECD projects that shoddy work will not be tolerated. For instance, the contractor responsible for this particular school should not expect payment until they return and rectify their mistakes,” said Lusaka firmly.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving ECD education, revealing plans to recruit additional teachers and develop a comprehensive scheme of service to ensure orderly promotions for ECD educators.

He acknowledged delays in teacher recruitment due to budgetary constraints but assured residents that the issue had been resolved.

Meanwhile, the distribution of ECD learning materials will continue across all wards in the county to enhance learning environments for young learners.
