Savona Water Project in Kakamega revived
The County Government of Kakamega, in partnership with the National Government under the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, is reviving the solar-powered Savona Water Project.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the Savona Water Project in Lurambi Sub-County by the National Treasury CS John Mbadi, Governor Barasa revealed that the county has already invested Sh109 million in the project, which will supply 6.5 million liters of water daily, meeting 80% of the municipality’s demand.
The project prioritizes solar energy to reduce electricity costs and aligns with Kakamega County’s green energy initiatives.
CS Mbadi praised the project’s revival, highlighting the FLLoCA investment and its contribution to reducing reliance on external water sources.

He emphasized the significance of collaboration between national and county governments in addressing climate change and financing climate action.
“The solarized water project will supply 6 million litres of water per day, with a capacity to enhance the production to 8.2 million litres at full operation.
Effectively, this project is poised to quench 80% of Kakamega County’s water needs, affirming our commitment to the Water at the doorstep, “Amatsi Khumuliango” objective and sanitation services for the people of Kakamega County,” said Governor Barasa.
