Shamberere Poly breaks silence after string of deaths

The sponsor church of Shamberere National Polytechnic has broken its silence following a string of reported deaths at the institution in the last one month.

Addressing the new trainees during their orientation, the Friends (Quaker) Church, through Malava Yearly meeting General Superintendent Cleopas Kharinda, assured the learners that the institution was safe and rubbished claims of deaths at the institutions saying they have nothing to do with the polytechnic’s operations.

“As a sponsor church who believe in pure strong virtues, we strongly sympathize and feel pained with the recent deaths of our learners but we assure our learners and offer our trust that they are at the right place as far as learning is concerned,” he said.

GS Kharinda also called on the local administration to step up their war against illicit brews, drug and substance business around the institution saying it targets the leaners.

Kharinda urged the new students to embrace religion noting that they were a target of many interested parties from within who are out to benefit from their huge numbers.

The Malava Yearly Meeting of Friends Church Presiding clerk Dr. Harrison Kavingwa confirmed that the church was concerned with the saddening deaths of the learners within a short span and hence the need for the church to swing into action and sanctify the institution from any bad spell cast against its well-being.

Kavingwa who is also serves the institution’s board of governors in charge of Education, Training, Research and Innovation stated that the deaths were not connected to the institution’s operations and that the deaths were isolated cases.

At the same time, Kavingwa lauded the high number of admissions the institution had recorded with a promise of more being admitted by the end of the admission window.

“Already we have over 700 new learners with more expected to join soon and this is a good sign that we are growing as a recognizable institution. Let all stakeholders join hands and support our giant institution to expand,” he said.
