Philanthropist Edgar Busiega rolls out programme to uplift local self-help groups
Celebrated top notch lawyer and philanthropist has donated cows to a local self-help group within Chemuche ward of Malava constituency bringing joy to the members.
The donation meant to empower the small microenterprise groups (SME’s) has been lauded by the locals terming the gesture as a way forward towards alleviation of poverty and uplifting of the locals economically.
Speaking during the ceremony on September 15, philanthropist Edgar Busiega stated that he was committed to giving back to the society.
“I grew up here and it is my mandate to support and uplift the livelihood of this community,” he said.
The Valimi Shukrani Self-help Group from Chemuche ward is among the 15 groups that were beneficiaries to the county Ksh50,000 grant.
Busiega encouraged the members to work as a team as they stand out to benefit a lot from several quarters both at the county and national levels
He further called on other locals to emulate the self -help group promising that he has started with his home ward before traversing to other wards within the sub county.
“Our major aim is to come together and walk this development journey together and it is only through such initiatives that we can fight poverty, illiteracy and improve our living standards.
“We are ensuring that our people have food on their tables, taking their children to school and can afford at least a decent lifestyle so that they can clearly make right decisions when the right time comes,” he encouraged.
The chairman of the Valimi Shukrani Self-help Group Timona Busolo applauded Busiega who was the and assured him of their full support in his future endeavors and aspirations.
Busolo said the group consisting of 25 members had made several strides as far as the growth of the group is concerned from dairy farming, table banking, merry go round, purchase of household items where each member has benefitted.
The group is currently planning to purchase chairs and tents for rental purposes.
“We got the county grant and we managed to top up another Ksh50, 000 and bought four cows and our son Busiega offered to add his contribution to the group. We are happy that our group is doing well compared to many from the sub-county that have stagnated, and our group is not political and do not support any particular,” he said.
Area MCA Geoffrey Sikolia who sits in the agriculture committee thanked the county for awarding 15 groups from his ward the grants as it will positively impact on the society.
