Two killed, scores injured in tragic road accident at Kaburengu, Kakamega County

Two people have tragically lost their lives and four others sustained life threatening injuries following a serious road accident that occurred Thursday, September 12 evening at the busy Kaburengu junction along the Eldoret-Webuye road, in Matete, Kakamega County.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred when the driver of a trailer, which was traveling towards Webuye direction, lost its control after, allegedly, the brakes failed while descending a steep slope.

The vehicle subsequently hit and killed a local vegetable vendor and a passenger who had just alighted from a public service vehicle commonly known as matatu.

Following the initial collision, the trailer crashed into a matatu that had been parked by the roadside, injuring four other people before the heavy vehicle finally overturned.

In the aftermath, the injured have been rescued and rushed to Webuye County Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been placed in the hospital’s mortuary.

Transport activities on the highway have been severely disrupted as enraged residents blocked the road, leading to significant traffic congestion.
