Resolve varsity funding model crisis now, Governor Barasa tells Govt

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has called on the Ministry of Education to expedite the appeals process for students affected by the recently introduced university funding model.

Speaking at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) on September 9 during an event to welcome new students, Governor Barasa stressed the importance of addressing the students’ complaints promptly to ensure that all eligible learners can access financial support for their higher education.

Dr. Pamela Sitienei, the Chairperson of the University Council at MMUST, reiterated that the new funding system is functioning as intended. She expressed confidence in the model, stating that it is aligned with the government’s vision for enhancing access to higher education.

Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo echoed these sentiments, assuring the students that the university is committed to supporting them as they transition into their academic programs.
