Lawyer calls out Malava MP, roots for economic-life-changing activities

Youth and Women empowerment should be given priority by the leadership that is at the helm of Malava constituency, if self-reliance has to be achieved in future according, lawyer Edgar Busiega has said.

While wondering why an area that is a host to two sugar factories, West Kenya and Butali sugar mills with farmers being paid over Kshs 70 million weekly, people still live in abject poverty, Busiega has called on the area Member of Parliament (MP) Malulu Injendi to consider giving out grants and soft loans to self help groups so as to be able run economic-life-changing activities.

He noted that in some areas, leaders have always mobilised the electorate for meetings to share out on issues affecting them noting that the gap between Malava leaders and the electorate is too wide.

This, he opines, makes it harder for them to express the difficulties and challenges they go through to the government, especially at such time when the cost of living is hitting the roof daily.

Busiega on the other hand also trashed the manner in which the area National Government – Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office was issuing bursaries to the students from the area.

He says the process is highly political and does not serve the intended purpose of helping needy cases but puts parents in more awkward positions, noting that there should be a mechanism where needy but bright students get full sponsorship than the Kshs2,000 dished out across to all applicants.

Busiega asked Malulu to call for a stakeholders meeting that will bring everyone on board to plan for developmental programs that are beneficial to the people of Malava rather than running the taxpayers Kitty like a personal fund.
