Khuchonyire: Malava residents plan major demo over poor state of Malava-Samitsi road

Plans are underway by the electorates drawn from across Malava constituency to hold major demonstrations on the Malava-Samitsi Road to protest the poor workmanship by the contractor.

The road is in a pathetic state and impassable just a few months after millions of shillings were spent.

The contractor, it is claimed, was paid a whooping Kshs9 million by the national government but ended up doing shoddy works that have left the users incurring huge losses daily.

Efforts by the users to have the road repaired have fell on deaf ear as those involved among them the deputy subcounty commissioner Florence Omieno has severally called the bodaboda operators in her office to threaten them of arrests should they dare demonstrate and this has left many asking whether she is a direct beneficiary of the contract or has been pocketed by the contractor.

Area Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi has distanced himself from the mess, saying the contractor should take full responsibility for failing to do a remarkable job on the road even after receiving his pay.

Apart from poor murraming, the residents want the road to be redone to the best standards.

President Willam Ruto had promised to launch the upgrading of the road to bitumen standards in December last year, but it is yet to materialise.
