Relief for 200 Runyu, Buluhani families affected by floods

By Busia County Press

Over 200 households affected by floods in Runyu and Buluhani in Bunyala Sub-County are going to benefit from food and non-food stuff from the Busia County’s Department of Disaster and Management in partnership with Care Kenya.

This was revealed during a courtesy call paid to the Director Disaster at the Governor’s lounge.

The items that will be donated include blankets, soaps, jericans, dignity kits, water purifiers, mosquito nets, and taplines among others.

According to Mr. Joel Osinya, the Director in charge of Disaster Management in Busia County, there is a need for more partners to come on board and assist the county in mitigating floods in Busia since the Short August – December rains are yet to be experienced and floods will automatically be expected.

“As a county, we cannot do everything in responding to the floods in Budalangi and some parts of Teso region in the forthcoming short rains. We are calling for support and collaboration to supplement our effort,” he urged.

Mr. Elly Otieno Ogolla the Care Kenya Project Manager noted that their main target is to provide assistance and to support vulnerable communities, and provide emergency relief, food assistance, shelter, and clean water.
