Kakamega leaders to Ruto: Listen to Kenyans or start packing early
By Andanje Wakhungu.
Several leaders from Kakamega County have called on the government to give a listening ear to Kenyans over tax issues.
The leaders drawn from different quarters within the county have asked President William Ruto to stop being misadvised and start interacting with the common Mwananchi to hear their say over the taxes being imposed on them now and then.
According to Kakamega County deputy governor Ayub Savula, who said he totally supports the recent Gen Z protests, the President is being put in check and he should climb down his high horse and listen to voices of reason pointing out that the police brutality, abduction and murder of innocent Kenyans can bring him down so fast.
βDo you people see Mr. President Ruto being in any danger from these young lads, whey does he unleash armed police officers to reign terror on our children and still deploy the Kenya defense forces to take charge of the nation, we are not a military state and he should quickly recall the forces back to their camps as he maps out how he is going to compensate those families who lost their loved ones during the demonstrations,β he said.
Savula also called on the government to ensure that the officers involved in the shooting and death of the protesters and who have been identified should face the full force of the law.
One of the Generation Z representative Jasusi Musa who stood on behalf of the young people did not mince his words and stated that it was time for them to be heard and their grievances addressed.
Kakamega county women rep Elsie Muhanda who voted NO to the punitive bill was hailed and urged by the youths to consider supporting her in her coming 2027 campaigns.
Politician and vocal activist Seth Panyako reiterated how he advised the President against taxing Kenyans too much while in Transnzoia as it was making life unbearable but he did not listen adding that he cautioned him that the move could jeopardize his two term leadership.
βI advised my party leader against his tax move as it was bound to boomerang on his administration and I was told I was wrecking the party from within and now look where it has placed the government with my President almost becoming a one term leader just because of failing to listen to the people.
βAnd now Gen Z has proved what I was telling them and I want to apologise to you my people as I was the one traversing here with Kenya Kwanza stalwarts seeking your votes and we voted in Mr President but since he assumed office, he has turned his back on you voters and am reminding him that he should listen to you and the young people,β Panyako noted.
Panyako said the government should restructure itself and be able to adjust to the wishes of the tax payer in consideration with the Kenyan wage bill.
Muhanda called on the President to move with haste and ensure that justice is done to the families who lost their loved ones if it is really serious about the welfare of the country.
βWe have seen murder abduction and this is still angering the nation let this stop and form a dialogue committee to listen what Kenyans have to say and not what the government decides to Kenyans,β she said.
