How philanthropist Agnes Kagure stands out in supporting school girls in menstrual hygiene

Nairobi-based philanthropist and politician Agnes Kagure has reminisced golden days she impacted and supported menstruation hygiene of bright school girls that are essential to the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. 

On any given day, more than 300 million women worldwide are menstruating. In total, an estimated 500 million lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management.

The politician through her associated foundation (Agnes Kagure Foundation), donated various hygienic essentials to school girls and created awareness on the importance of effectively managing menstruation.

Girls and women require access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, affordable and appropriate menstrual hygiene materials, information on good practices, and a supportive environment where they can manage menstruation without embarrassment or stigma.

She also empowered various girls in across the 17 sub-counties in the city with an aim of improving their education standards.

Recently, Kagure launched sub-county initiative that seeks to identify community challenges and address them, especially targeting women and girls up to the grassroots level.

The foundation is also tasked with mentoring of girls and women, providing sanitary towels and influencing policy changes to favour women from the county.
